Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

The aim of the module is to give an effective and functional overview of Quality Management. It will: 1. Introduce you to the role that Quality Management plays in the workplace 2. Make you aware of the how to implement a range of quality strategies and tools 3. Inform you about the impact that quality has on the organisation as a whole

Syllabus:

1. Quality Control / Assurance, Quality Management Systems, documentation, audits, standards (ISO9000:2000) 2. Total Quality Management, human resource issues, sourcing policy 3. Quality Costs 4. Problem solving tools 5. Benchmarking and Quality Function Deployment.

Learning Outcomes:

Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)

1. Appreciate the difference between QC, QA and TQM 2. Understand the role of, and how to develop a QMS 3. Be familiar with commonly employed data collection and quality improvement tools 4. Be familiar with a protocol which assures a customer focus throughout the design process 5. Understand the need for performance metrics, and the role of Quality Costs in this respect

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

Delivery is a hybrid of traditional distance education and online learning together with a number of face-to-face / on-line tutorials. In addition, there are online discussions moderated by a subject matter expert on elements of each module to reinforce the learning and maximise the benefit of the programme for participants.
