Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

This module presents an advanced perspective on several theories and models in social psychology. Social Psychological models are developing to map current problems, and thus both theoretical and empirical applications should be considered. At the same time dissemination of social psychological knowledge to the public is an important aspect of contributing to society with our discipline, and students will be instructed in the ethics and professional considerations involved in disseminating scientific findings the public.

Syllabus:

The module discusses a range of social psychological models, theories and applications, and is structured according to the following topics: 1. Recent developments in social psychology and their historical roots 2. Criteria for the evaluation of new theories and methods 3. Ethical problems connected to new methods 4. Discussion and critical reflections of some new theories 5. Present and defend new theoretical proposals

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: - Give an overview of most recent developments in social psychology - Explain and evaluate a some new theories in depth - Connect recently developed theories and methods to their historical roots - Apply criteria to evaluate new theories and methods - Critically compare different theories and methods - Distinguish similar theoretical constructs from each other - Lead theoretical and methodological discussions and develop outlines of a new theoretical approach - Write on current topics in social psychology for the public - Deal with larger bodies of scientific texts - Delineate the ethical problems connected to new methods - Outline new theoretical proposals - Present theories and methods in social psychology

The module is taught via the delivery of lectures (Lectures on course contents) and seminars (Seminars for classroom discussions). Students are evaluated via coursework.
