Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

This module is set at B1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The course is designed to: * Revise and broaden the students knowledge of the structures of Spanish grammar. * Expand the students range of Spanish vocabulary. * Improve pronunciation and patterns of intonation in Spanish. * Further develop the students language skills by exposing them to different situation and registers, both formal and informal. * Facilitate the students understanding of various cultural aspects within the Spanish-speaking world. * Foster autonomous language learning.

Syllabus:

This syllabus is set at B1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

The course consists of 4 hours of Spanish per week: * 2 language tutorials (grammar, vocabulary, communication skills). * One laboratory class (communication and listening skills). * One lecture on contemporary Spain and Latin America. All these hours combine the development of linguistic and cultural knowledge relating to Spain and Latin America. Students will be engaged in active learning both inside and outside the classroom and will be encouraged to develop autonomous learning strategies. The language part of the module will be taught in small class groups, maintaining a balance between all the appropriate linguistic skills (oral and written comprehension and expression, grammar, vocabulary)
