Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
Management and leadership have become integral components of the coaching process and skills of modern coaches. This module aims to provide an overview of the 'indirect task behaviours' of coaches drawing upon research and learning from the business field. The module introduces material from business settings relating these to specific coaching contexts.
The emphasis aims to support the development of personal management and development skills and relating these to the students coaching context in areas such as leadership, performance culture in addition to the management of people, programmes and resources.

2. Importance of and development of Culture in sports systems
3. Programme and Management of the Coaching Process
4. Managing Multi-Disciplinary Management Teams
5. Planning and managing programmes: periodisation in Sports Coaching
6. Development and Management of Talent Development Systems
7. Building effective Relationships and Relationship Management
8. Emotional Intelligence in Coaching
9. Lifestyle Management - athletes and coaches
Learning Outcomes:
Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)
• Understand the main models of leadership from business settings and apply the skills of top leaders to sporting settings
• Demonstrate an understanding of 'culture' in sports settings and using examples develop an appreciation of the impact of culture on sports performance and critically analyse the culture within their own setting
• Identify the key components of management of people, resources and programmes
• Recognise the importance of key management and leadership skills within the coaching process
• Develop an integrated annual plan including periodised plan and management of this plan grounded through academic research
Affective (Attitudes and Values)
• Conduct a self-analysis of personal leadership style and skills identifying areas for future development
• Develop an understanding of 'self' and personal values in coaching and leadership
• Recognise the impact of leadership styles on different types of athlete and analyse their own coaching situation
• Appreciate the importance of effective relationships and the importance of the key components such as trust, emotional intelligence and communication.
