Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

For this module, students are expected to write a dissertation of 15,000 words in the area of Translation Studies which shows critical engagement with one or several of the key theoretical discussions and methodological approaches in the field.

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: - Demonstrate appropriate critical understanding of the main theoretical perspectives in Translation Studies. - Show a clear grasp of methodological issues and apply an appropriate methodological perspective to their project. - Express their ideas clearly and construct a coherent argument linked to a clearly-stated hypothesis.

Affective (Attitudes and Values)

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: - Work independently on a complex research project. - Communicate effectively with their research supervisor and ammend work in progress in the light of comments received. - Show an understanding of ethical principles surrounding research in Translation Studies, from potential copyright issues to the ethical challenges of collection and interpretation of primary data.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

In this module, students will work individually under the guidance of an assigned research supervisor. This will contribute to their development as responsible, independent and adaptive researchers and provide them with problem-solving, research and interpersonal skills.
