Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

The purpose of the module is to teach students how to design information, taking typography, colour, graphics, illustrations, screen layout, information design theories, user experience, and user-/ learner- centered design considerations into account. Information design methodologies can be applied to any type of content development project, including websites, presentations, and online courses.

Syllabus:

The module focuses on information design for digital content. It covers: typography; colour; graphics; illustrations; screen layout; use of white space; chunking of information; information design theories; user experience; and user- and learner- centred design theories.

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: * Design effective digital content by applying information design theories. * Use templates to design documents consistently. * Use software tools such as Microsoft Word and Canva to design and develop digital content.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

This module will be taught on campus, supported by the UL VLE. Each week, lectures and tutorial activities will engage students in the theory, analysis, and practice of designing information. Students will explore information design examples to develop their understanding of applications of theory (Graduate Attribute: Curious). Students will discuss potential ethical challenges relating to information design and ways to resolve these challenges (Graduate Attributes: Articulate and Responsible). Assignments will enable students to express complex information using design principles and practices (Graduate Attribute: Agile).
