Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

The purpose of this module is to introduce students to the principles of learning design and how they can be applied to online course development and training materials.

Syllabus:

The module focuses on principles of digital learning design. It covers: approaches to learning and instructional design; needs assessment; front-end analysis; course design; universal design for learning; web accessibility; and the systematic design of instruction.

Learning Outcomes:

Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: Conduct a needs assessment for a proposed learning resource. Apply instructional design theories to the design and development of a digital learning resource. Apply universal design for learning and accessibility considerations to the design and development of a digital learning resource. Use web-based applications to design and develop digital content.

Affective (Attitudes and Values)

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: Volunteer constructive feedback to peers who are designing a learning resource.

Psychomotor (Physical Skills)

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: Design and develop an instructional resource (e.g. a podcast or a micro e-learning course).
